PRIVACY NOTICE

Last updated: November 16, 2021

Thank you for choosing to be part of our community at Alzheimer’s Caregivers Association (“Organization,” “we,” “us” or “our”). This privacy notice explains how we collect, use and disclose your personal information; the choices you have regarding our use of your personal information; and how to contact us regarding our privacy practices.

This privacy notice applies to personal information that we collect when you visit or use our website (https://alzheimerscaregivers.org/) and any website that links to this privacy notice (together, the “Services”).

Please read this privacy notice carefully, as it will help you understand how we use the personal information that we collect. If there are any terms in this privacy notice that you do not agree with, please discontinue use of the Services immediately. If you have any questions or concerns about this privacy notice or our practices with regard to your personal information, please contact us at team@alzheimerscaregivers.org.

  1. WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

We may collect personal information about you directly from you or automatically through your use of the Services. “Personal information” is any information that identifies you directly or indirectly. The categories of personal information we collect about you depend on how you interact with us on the Services.

Personal Information You Disclose to Us

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us through the Services. For example, we collect personal information when you subscribe to our newsletter, participate in activities on the Services or otherwise contact us through the Services. Through a service provider, we also collect personal information when you make a donation to the Organization.

The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us. When you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us or download content from our website, the personal information we collect may include your name, email address, mailing address and personal information you choose to share with us. When you make a donation to the Organization, your name, email address, mailing address, phone number and payment card information are collected.

Some forms on the Services may require you to provide personal information to submit the form. You may choose not to provide personal information in those cases, but this may prevent you from being able to use certain features on the Services.

Personal information Automatically Collected

We may automatically collect personal information about you when you access or use the Services. The methods that may be used on the Services to automatically collect personal information and the types of personal information that may be collected include:

  • Log Information. When your computer or mobile device contacts our web servers, our web servers automatically collect certain usage information. Such usage information includes information about how our visitors use and navigate the Services, the length of their stay on the Services, browser type, referrer data that identifies the webpage visit prior to the Services and IP address.

  • Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies. Cookies, pixels, web beacons and other tracking technologies (“tracking technologies”) may be used to collect information about your interactions with the Services. These tracking technologies may collect your IP address and certain internet activity information, such as information about your browser type, device used to access the Services, operating system and data regarding network-connected hardware (e.g., computer or mobile device) as well as information regarding your interactions with pages you visit on the Services. Brief descriptions of common tracking technologies are provided below.
    • Cookie. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer’s hard drive or stored temporarily in your computer’s memory. There are two kinds of cookies: those that are session oriented and those that are persistent. Session cookies make it easier for you to navigate the Services and expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain longer and help us in understanding how you use the Services and enhance your user experience. Cookies remain on your hard drive for an extended period of time. Most web browsers accept cookies automatically.
    • Pixels or Web Beacons. Pixels or web beacons are tiny pieces of code designed to blend into a website in order to monitor and collect certain information about visitors. Web beacons can be very small or invisible to the user, but, in general, any electronic image viewed as part of a web page, including HTML based content, can act as a web beacon. We may use web beacons to count visitors to the Services or to monitor how our users navigate the Services. We may use web beacons to compile aggregate statistics about the Services and our marketing campaigns.

For options available to you related to the use of tracking technologies, see “What Choices Do I Have Regarding My Personal Information.”

  • Providing you the content and services you request, including providing a digital toolkit.
  • Administering our operations, including handling donations and managing donors.
  • Communicating with you, including answering your questions, responding to your requests and sending you email alerts and newsletters if you have subscribed to such communications.
  • Sending marketing and promotional communications to promote the Organization and solicit donations.
  • Targeting advertising to you.
  • Improving the Services, including understanding who is visiting the Services, analyzing how the Services are being accessed and used and improving the functionality of the Services.
  • Maintaining the security of the Services, including detecting security incidents, protecting the Services against fraudulent and illegal activity and enforcing our terms of service.
  • Complying with our legal obligations and responding to legal proceedings, including establishing, exercising or defending legal claims.

  1. WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We may share your personal information in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent to do so or at your direction.
  • With our business partners and service providers to the extent they need the personal information in order to provide a service to us. For example, we utilize a service provider to process donations.
  • If we believe such disclosure is necessary. For example,
    • to comply with relevant laws or respond to a subpoena, warrant or court order served on us;
    • to respond to requests from government agencies, including law enforcement authorities;
    • if we believe your actions are inconsistent with our terms of service or applicable terms or policies;
    • to protect the rights, property, life, health, security or safety of the Organization, its employees, volunteers, the Services and its users or any third party; or
    • for the establishment of defenses or claims in any legal actions or dispute involving the Organization or any of its directors, employees, volunteers or third parties.

In the event we initiate a transfer or assignment of all or a portion of our business or assets (e.g., further to a sale, merger, consolidation, change of control, reorganization, bankruptcy or any other business transaction, including negotiations and due diligence of such transactions), we reserve the right to disclose any information we collect about you or from you. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur and are permitted by and subject to this privacy notice.

  1. HOW SHOULD YOU TREAT THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES?

The Services may contain advertisements from third parties or links to third-party websites or online services. Any personal information collected by third-party websites is not covered by this privacy notice. We cannot guarantee the safety and privacy of personal information you provide to any third parties. We provide links to third-party websites and online services only for your convenience. We are not responsible for any third party’s data collection or privacy practices and we encourage you to review the policies and notices posted on third-party websites and online services for further information.

  1. HOW ARE SOCIAL FEATURES ON THE SERVICES TREATED?

Certain functionalities on the Services may permit interactions that you initiate between the Services and third-party services, such as social networks (“Social Features”). Examples of Social Features include features enabling you to “like” or “share” our content and features that otherwise connect the Services to a third-party service (e.g., to pull or push information to or from the Services). If you use Social Features, and potentially other third-party services, information you post or provide access to may be publicly displayed by the third-party service you use. Also, both the Organization and the third party may have access to information about you and your use of the Services and the third-party service.

  1. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION SAFE?

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security, and improperly collect, access, steal or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from the Services is at your own risk.

  1. HOW DO WE USE ANALYTICS?

We use analytics services, such as Google Analytics, which use cookies and other tracking technologies to collect information to analyze your use of the Services. The information collected by tracking technologies about your interactions with the Services is used to assess how often you visit the Services, what pages you view when you visit the Services and what other websites you visited before coming to the Services. For more information on Google’s privacy practices for Google Analytics, please visit https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245. You may prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on the Services by deleting or disabling cookies from the Services. For more information, see “What Choices Do I Have Regarding My Personal Information” below.

  1. HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IN SERVING ADVERTISEMENTS?

We may use various ad-serving or other companies to serve advertisements on the Services or on third-party services, including social media platforms. In the process of serving advertisements, cookies and other tracking technologies may be used across time and services to collect information about websites you visit, products or services that may be of interest to you and other information about you in order to deliver relevant ads and/or other content to you. Serving ads that are tailored to your interests based on your browsing of the Services and elsewhere on the Internet is referred to as “interest-based advertising” or “online behavioral advertising.” For information on how to opt-out of this type of advertising, see “What Choices Do I Have Regarding My Personal Information” below.

  1. WHAT CHOICES DO I HAVE REGARDING MY PERSONAL INFORMATION?

Unsubscribe to Email Alerts and Newsletter Subscriptions

If you receive an email alert from us or subscribe to our newsletter, you may unsubscribe from receiving additional communications by following the unsubscribe instructions in the emails we send.

Ability to Opt-Out of Tracking Technologies

Regular cookies generally may be disabled or removed using tools available as part of most commercial browsers, and in some instances blocked in the future by selecting certain settings. You can learn more about cookies and how to block cookies on different types of browsers by visiting http://www.allaboutcookies.org. Please be aware that if you disable or remove these technologies, some parts of the Services may not work and when you revisit the Services, your ability to limit browser-based tracking technologies is subject to your browser settings and limitations.

Ability to Opt-Out of Interest-Based Advertising
You can generally opt-out of receiving targeted ads from third-party advertisers and ad networks who are members of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) by visiting http://optout.networkadvertising.org. You may also opt-out of receiving targeted advertisements from other companies that perform interest-based advertising services via the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) site at http://optout.aboutads.info/.  Please note that when using the ad industry opt-out tools described above you may need to execute opt-outs for each browser or device that you use. Opting out of interest-based advertising does not mean you will no longer see advertising online but it does mean that the companies from whom you opt-out will no longer show ads that have been tailored to your interests.

Do Not Track Features

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this privacy notice.

  1. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS PRIVACY NOTICE?

We may update this privacy notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Revised” date and the updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes to this privacy notice, we may notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to review this privacy notice frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
